Crossness Pumping Station

You might think it mad to get up early on a damp Sunday morning to visit a sewage treatment works. You’d be right but then you’d miss out on seeing the restored and working Victorian steam engines at Crossness pumping station.

As the rest of the site is still a working sewage plant the smell can be a bit funky. Yet it’s definitely worth a visit when open and running.

It’s very ornate for a building that not many people would see. The staff look smart in their period uniforms too. There is also a tea room and museum.

Here are some videos and pictures.
